The annual Observatory Arts Festival is held on the first Weekend in December.

Trendy, young and artistic community.
Obs for short - Observatory is Cape Town´s bohemian* suburb.  It is one of Cape Town´s happening suburbs for local bars, live music and health food restaurants.
*Bohemian - Socially unconventional; of free-and-easy habits. (The Pocket Oxford Dictionary)

THE NEIGHBOURHOOD - OBSERVATORY
The Green Elephant is situated in the lively student area of Observatory. We are close to pubs and restaurants, public transport, shops, movies, sportsgrounds and theatres .
It is well placed for a base in Cape Town while you enjoy the benefits the Cape has to offer. Being in a student area, the pubs are full of young people and prices are low ! It is not as expensive other Cape Town nightlife areas.

Groote Schuur Hospital - This World Famous Hospital jsut accross the road from the Green Elephant was the site of the worlds first successful Human to Human Heart Transplant in 1967. The Heart of Cape Town Museum is set in the original theatre and has an excellent tour.

The South African Astronomical Observatory - gives Observatory it's name - view the night sky through the original telescopes - open nights on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of every month - just 10 minutes walk from the Green Elephant.

Cape Town Science Centre - accross the road from the Green Elephant, aptly situated on the grounds of the site of the first succesful Human Heart Transplant at Groote Schuur Hospital and walking distance from the Astronimical Observatory.
